2002 Winners of the Equity Trustees’ Not For Profit CEO Awards
CEO of the Year
Leigh Garrett, CEO, Offenders Aid & Rehabilitation Services of South Australia Leigh Garrett from Offenders Aid & Rehabilitation Services of South Australia was the Equity Trustees’ 2002 CEO of the Year because of his remarkable achievements in assisting individuals who are largely outside society as we know it. He took an organisation on the verge of bankruptcy, broadened its services and made it nationally and internationally competitive.
Significant Innovation Award
Tony Pitman, CEO Oz Child Tony Pitman, CEO of Oz Child, was the winner of the Equity Trustees’ 2002 Significant Innovation Award for taking Australia’s oldest child welfare agency and turning it around with a bundle of fresh and innovative ideas.
First Year Achiever Award
Mary Wooldridge, CEO, Foundation for Young Australians Mary Wooldridge, CEO, Foundation for Young Australians won the Equity Trustees’ 2002 First Year Achiever Award for her stellar efforts in her first year as a CEO with no previous history in the NFP sector. She brought two organisations together, wrote a five-year plan and implemented a whole raft of initiatives in her first 12 months.
Long Term Achiever Award
Joint winners Patrick McClure of Mission Australia and Reverend Canon Howard Dillon of Anglicare NSW Patrick McClure of Mission Australia and Rev. Canon Howard Dillon of Anglicare NSW were the joint winners of the Equity Trustees’ 2002 Long Term Achiever Award. Both men have many years of service in the NFP sector and guided their organisations through restructures and consolidations, at the same time raising their organisations’ profile. They successfully tapped into government funding and also instigated private funding. Both organisations provide a range of services that would once only have been provided by government.
Judges’ Award
Cliff Barclay, CEO Uniting Care, Ballarat Parish Mission Cliff Barclay, CEO of Uniting Care, Ballarat Parish Mission, was the winner of the Equity Trustees’ 2002 Judges’ Award for achieving remarkable results for elderly people. Along the way he built the staff and budget of Uniting Care in Ballarat.
